Voter Registration

Registering to vote allows individuals to participate in elections and provides the opportunity to help decide who will serve in elected office.
votingmachineTo register to vote, you must be:

  1. A U.S. Citizen
  2. At least 18 years of age by the next General/Consolidated Election
  3. A resident of your precinct at least 30 days prior to election day

In order to register, you must provide two forms of identification, one of which must include your current address. Acceptable forms of identification include:

  • Illinois driver’s license/ID Card
  • Employee or student ID
  • Credit Card
  • Social Security card
  • Birth certificate
  • Utility bill in applicant’s name
  • Valid U.S. Passport
  • Public Aid I.D. Card
  • Lease or rental contract

Where and how to register
Individuals can register to vote in person at the County Clerk’s office, located at 189 E. Court St., Kankakee, or by mail.
When submitting a voter registration application:

  • Fill out the entire application
  • Sign the application

The following need not be registered in order to vote:

  • Members, spouses and dependents of the armed active service. (Spouses and dependents must be registered if they vote in person at the polling place.)
  • Members of the armed services discharged within 60 days prior to said election.
  • Members, spouses, and dependents of the Merchant Marine.
